About Esc

Hi all!

First off, I want to say thank you for visiting & taking the time to read all about li'l old me.

I've always been a bit of a "maker". I love arts and crafts of all kinds ever since I was little; I used to go the Knitting & Stitching Show every year with my Nan and come home with all sorts of kits, threads, fabrics and knick knacks. But it wasn't until 2020 that I found one that could hold my attention for more than an hour - making candles.

When I first gave candle-making a go, they were terrible. Like, truly awful. Normally when that happens with a project or a craft, I just give up. But if I'm honest, I was kind of taken aback that you could make a candle "wrong". I had no idea how much research, time and effort goes in to making a candle, let alone one that can evoke a memory or an emotion. So research is what I did (and quite a lot of it!). I kept at it, making bad candle after bad candle. But this time I made notes on every single element of the process & result, and used that information to improve on my next try.

And so, after many trials and many errors, I finally created something I was proud of. And that's when I thought that this might be something I could share with people. I felt that Covid-19 resulted in people being even more glued to their computers than usual, with working from home becoming the norm. People seemed to find it difficult to "switch off" without a clear distinction between home & the office, and that's what prompted me to create the brand that is Esc (the logo representing the Escape key on a keyboard & signifying the need to remember to step back and take time for ourselves where we can).

So I made the leap & took this thing main stream. Esc is now the home of completely vegan hand-poured soy wax candles, wax melts & reed diffusers, all made in Derbyshire. I hope you enjoy my creations as much as I enjoy making them!
